Across the district, we have seen great benefit in the weekly Friday morning professional learning opportunities for our teaching staff.
Because this time is so valuable to the education we deliver, and given recent changes in the Y-Care fee structure for Friday-morning-only usage, all elementary schools in the Dubuque Community School District will offer an early drop-off option for families needing accommodations for the one-hour Friday late arrivals.
This new option, which is not a childcare program, is for students who need to arrive at school on Friday the same time they do Monday through Thursday. We know that most families in the district already have arrangements that work well for them on Friday mornings and they will continue that routine. We also expect that students enrolled in a before- and/or after-school childcare program during the week will continue to utilize that program on Friday mornings.
The district’s offering will simply be an opportunity to study or read in a quiet location, supervised by paraprofessional staff. It will not include programming beyond that.
Logistics and specific times are still being determined and you will receive information later this summer from your school as details are finalized.
We hope your summer is off to a great start!
