Meet the District’s New School Board Members

Due to icy conditions, the Dubuque Community School District (including all public and parochial schools) will operate on a two-hour delay TODAY, Tuesday, January 23.
All district-run morning preschool is canceled.
2018-2019 Free Four-Year-Old Preschool Registration Begins Monday, Feb. 5
Registration for free four-year-old preschool in the Dubuque Community School District will begin on Monday, Feb. 5. This includes Dubuque’s 13 public schools offering preschool through the Statewide Voluntary Free Preschool Program.
Parents and guardians may register students in person at the selected site, beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, February 5. Proof-of-age, preferably a birth certificate, is required to register a student. A passport or signed immunization record will be accepted if necessary.
Preschools registration paperwork is available online or in-person at elementary schools.
NOTE: In the event of a weather delay on Monday, Feb. 5, preschool registration will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Free four-year-old preschool is open to students who are four by September 15. For additional registration questions, individuals should contact the site they are interested in registering at.
Space may be limited in some facilities and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment for preschool is not based on geography and all sites are open to residents within the Dubuque Community School District.
In addition to spots in Dubuque’s public schools, a variety of community preschool partners also offer free four-year-old preschool.
The Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program for Four-Year-Old Children is funded by the State of Iowa and facilitated locally by the Dubuque Community School District.
Art Exhibit Highlights Work of First-Grade Students
The Dubuque Community School District and the University of Dubuque are hosting “The Painted Word: An Exhibition of Dubuque First-Grade Students’ Work, Inspired by Eric Carle” now through Friday, January 26, at the Bisignano Art Gallery at the University of Dubuque.
The gallery is open Monday through Friday from noon-5 p.m.

The work, created by area first graders, was all inspired by illustrator and author Eric Carle. Carle is best known for his book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” which sold over 46 million copies.

Thursday, January 11, Activities Postponed
Due to inclement weather, the following activities and events are postponed for today, Thursday, January 11.
- There will be no middle school practices today.
- The Dubuque Senior High School wrestling meet at Iowa City has been postponed and rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 25.
- The Hempstead High School wrestling meet at Iowa City has been postponed and rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 25.
- Dubuque Senior High School freshman basketball versus Wahlert Catholic has both been postponed. A new date will be announced when it is determined.
