About Dubuque Online High School

In an effort to meet the diverse needs of learners across the district, the Dubuque Community School District launched Dubuque Online High School in the 2022-2023 school year.

Dubuque Online School is a separate school from the district’s two physical high schools – Dubuque Senior and Hempstead. Students must take at least two courses online to be enrolled in Dubuque Online School. Students in Dubuque Online School may take courses not offered online in person at their address-assigned high school.

NOTE: Students enrolled in Dubuque Online School are always considered students in that school, NOT Dubuque Senior High School or Hempstead High School, even if they take some in-person classes at one of the physical high schools.

This school provides high school students (grades 9-12) with a rigorous course schedule of online instruction delivered through a combination of on-demand classes using Imagine Edgenuity online learning platform and live virtual classes using Microsoft Teams video streaming platform.

Classes taught on Microsoft Teams will meet live daily. Dubuque Online School staff will work with students in scheduling, but students requesting these classes should have an alternate choice should the course times conflict with other required coursework.

Students enrolled at Dubuque Online School will receive their diploma from Dubuque Online School. A separate graduation ceremony will be held for Dubuque Online School students and students will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremonies for Dubuque Senior and Hempstead High Schools as those are not the diploma granting schools.

Students at Dubuque Online School will be able to choose from these course offerings:
